Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme
Higham Lane School has been active in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme since its inception in the 1960s. We enrol students for the Bronze Award at the beginning of Year 9 and the Silver Award at the start of Year 10.
Approximately 30 students enrol for the Bronze Award and they have to complete the four sections of the Award. They take part in a physical activity, learn a skill, volunteer and complete a demanding journey or expedition which takes places over two weekends.
Silver candidates follow a similar pattern and complete expeditions in the Peak District and Shropshire over two weekends.
